“Your mom will think I’m pretty, and yes, I’m pretty lovely” says up and coming Portuguese soul queen Da Chick on her new track Cocktail, which you can find on her debut EP Curly Mess out on Discotexas. Here we have a definite new leading lady as far as Nu Disco jams go. Da Chick comes through with some serious summertime swag full of fun vibes, as she flexes her versatile style over an array of different tempos like it ain’t no THANG, delivering some nostalgic throwback sounds with a touch of soul, funk, R&B, hiphop (and of course disco), all while bringing a fresh, modern sound to our ears. This EP is only three tracks long, but as far as being stylistic goes, home girl is all over the map, and definitely doesn’t take herself too seriously. Have fun groovin’ to this one!
PJ&L came up on my radar very recently when they tipped us onto their manically euphoric club bomb You’re The Only Thing. We talked about the track at the time but it’s since been added to the self-released extended play titled Year of the Lobster, and people, the whole thing is insane.
Opening the EP with what has undoubtedly been my favourite track this month, the Sydney-based duo get slow and sexy with a downtempo funk delight by the name of So Much Love. One listen, and that’s exactly what you’ll have for the jam.
You’re The Only Thing sets the energy very high while Darlin maintains that energy with a very addicting blend of disco house and french touch.
Closing up with a cluster bomb of high frequencies, uptempo kicks, and wailing samples, you’ll be send through the roof at the end of this record to the tune of Set Your Soul, which has a style reminiscent of french producer The Phantom’s Revenge.
Fantastic set, all free. Get downloading and start sweating.
And don’t miss the official video for Darlin, made from clips from Cool World.
We’ve been following Karl Rose’s style for a while now, grooving through his french and disco house selection that have always maintained a fantastic late night vibe. So least to say I was excited when I heard he was releasing an extended play on J Paul Getto’sFogbank Records.
Three originals and a remix from the Boston duo themselves, Rose has made a fine collection that will quench the thirst of any french house enthusiast. The title track, which was made in collaboration with Yuri TheMind, has some visuals to go along with the sample-based jam, check the video and listen to the whole EP below. You can pick this up over at Traxsource, start dancin’.
Discotexas has done it again with the release of the Traffic EP from A.N.D.Y. & Vicente which features two originals and two remixes. A laid back, synth laden jam session, Traffic and El Barrio will give you that subtle two-step groove that you can rock at the coffee shop.
Moving on to the remixes, I was absolutely impressed with both performances. Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver brought phenomenal dance floor feeling, driven by huge stabs and uber fat bass chords. Summer anthem? Yus indeed.
The Supermen Lovers is a project by French producer Guillaume Atlan and goddamn does he know how to produce one hell of a jam. Taking El Barrio and turning the funk on bust, Atlan brings an insanely addicting 60s/70s funk rock vibe to the track for a sound to make you want to get down. This ain’t his first trip to the candy store, so make sure that you’re following him if you’re not already.
Ever since we started Remix86, the ’96 Bulls have been high up on our watch list. While the Australian duo has been quiet as of late, busy with touring and slowly revealing their mysterious identities, over the next few weeks they’ve got quite a lot in store for their vast fan base.
Recently returning from SXSW, where they shared the stage with The Knocks and Lenno, and from New York, where they played at Neon Gold’s POPSHOP with Flight Facilities and Yuksek, the ’96 Bulls will soon be releasing new tracks with Wax Motif, Captain Cuts, The Knocks, and Beni. Their latest remix of Ashton Shuffle’sWon’t Get Lost is just a sampling of some of the great music headed your way. The duo have also produced two songs on Australian hip hop artist 360′s album, which has recently gone platinum and is set to release in Europe, Africa, and Asia in September of this year.
With all that’s been going on with the duo, we were lucky to have the guys produce a guest mix for us. A mixed bag of nu disco, french touch, deep house, and indie-pop, this collection is packed with good vibes and dance-inducing beats. Exclusive to Remix86.com, download the ’96 Bulls May Mix now and follow the duo to keep up-to-date on their future endeavors.
Check out the tracklist after the jump, and enjoy!
Hello y’all, my name is Nick Melnyk. I’m the digital new kid on the Remix86 block. I DJ and screw around with music under the moniker Nick Bike. I have been living in Prince Edward Island for the last decade, but am moving out to Vancouver in less than a couple weeks time. I am 22 and a very recent BBA graduate from UPEI.
I have a new record label based out of PEI with friends Sp00nfed and Jeff Math called Scuffed Records, which focuses on house and disco. I will share more about that in the upcoming months as our releases begin to unfold. I also blog for my pals in Vancouver who run Schitz Popinov and the School of Remix.

Now then – on to the music…
Here is a compilation I stumbled on this morning from GMGN. It was recently released by Dashboard Records who are based out of the USA. ‘Affaire de Coeur Vol. 1′ also features one of my recent favourites: Vostok-1.
There is a mix of slow and quick jams on this comp. French Kiss Collective, Tightshirt, GMGN, and Vostok-1 round off my picks for it. Colour Vision’s ‘Crazy For Your Love‘ picks off a favourite Chilly record. While Discofunk holds to be my favourite re-rub of this sample, it’s a cool take with neat percussion. I feel like Literature’s ‘Miss Emmanuel‘ could easily been labeled as a remix to SebastiAn’s ‘Arabest‘, but somehow doesn’t live up to that track, in my opinion. It sounds kind of rough on the edges – but it’s probably just the middle drop that throws me off.
Anyways, I won’t ruin the entire adventure. Have a listen and cop any or all of them for free!
