Oliver, Leading The Charge In 2012? + Footsteps, free DL

2011 was a massive year for Oliver. This duo absolutely astonished me with the popularity each one of their tracks had earned, sparking hope that the number of people out there that enjoy quality EDM is increasing. Their last six works have counted tens of thousands of plays, each. They hooked an official Britney Spears remix and penetrated the top 40 barrier. When they showed us I Need You, they said they’d give it away after reaching 20,000 plays. A little bit ambitious for an underground duo? Apparently not, they busted that shit in 4 days.
To me this is an indication of an impending shift in the way this style of music is received. We’ve seen heavy electro, dubstep and progressive house absolutely saturate all corners of the music industry, from the pop charts to your local club (and my inbox… do you guys mind actually visiting the site before you submit?). On the other hand, while Oliver’s sound is unique, it’s part of a stage that sits fairly underground. Primarily nu disco with a blend of classic and deep house, and a touch of french house sprinkled with a pinch of late 80s/early 90s influence to add that retro feel.
But maybe it’s time for genres like this to hold solid ground on the global scene. Heavenly nu disco like Digitalfoxglove, Goldroom and Show Your Shoe. Modern funk killers like Shook, Robotaki and Sweater Beats. Euphoric and eclectic french touch and disco house dance floor movers like Tobtok, Go Go Bizkitt! and L’Étranger. All great sounds (and in no way an exhaustive list) with genuine feel-good vibes that every person I share with highly enjoys, yet is still rare to find in a public setting.
I hope to see that change in the near future, and with the popularity they’ve achieved, maybe it will be acts like Oliver that will lead the charge. We optimistically wait, enjoying fine music in the meantime.
So here’s their latest work, amazing as usual. Definitely a duo to keep full attention to in 2012. Free download.
