Yes, bring back the funk! Ninetynine’s latest EP is the kind of filter-laden music that I’ve been missing, been craving lately because these days there seems to be quite a deficiency for the kind of filter/french house and downtempo jams that this Montreal native pumps out on a regular basis.
Now based in Seattle, Julian Gamble is not letting a beat skip after the release of his debut LP, Interstate ’97 (Fogbank), only a few months ago. Following a similar structure to the Sweet Touch EP, this new double-single extended play projects an upbeat discotheque mover on one side, and one damn sexy late night burner on the other. Fond Of U brings the funk and french house pump straight down to your boogie shoes, and you know they’ll be moving to this.
The title track, Together, is a colab with Alexx Foxx and it will keep that late night energy burning. A downtempo delight, this track begins playful and seductive, and when it crosses the 1.24 mark it gets downright sensual with heavy use of filters over a great sample.
An essential addition to the library of any disco and french house fan, grab your copy of the EP now, because it’s available for free via the great up-and-coming Canadian label Close To Modern.
