Now seems a better time than any to dust off this gem of a remix by the man they call <a href="http://www.facebook.com/kreapofficial"target=”_blank”>Kreap.

As most of you are probably aware, the legend <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Adam-Yauch/114848398531484"target=”_blank”>Adam Yauch aka MCA, one the founding members of the great hip hop trio, <a href="http://www.facebook.com/beastieboys"target=”_blank”>Beastie Boys, passed away this month, may he rest in peace. In 2011 the trio did one of my all time favorite collabs with the one and only <a href="http://www.facebook.com/Santigold"target=”_blank”>Santigold, a reggae funk meets hip hop track entitled Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win. Santigold has also just dropped a new album, Master of My Make-Believe, so it would seem appropriate to post this tight edit of the collab produced by one of my top picks from the many decent Aussie artists, Kreap. He beefs up the original to a club level, with a fun phase progression and a super easy rhythm to move to. An absolute must for any and all parties.

You can listen to the free-to-download track below and then go here to check out all the other love the team here at Remix86.com has shown this very talented musician in the past across an array of other posts.

And since the original video clip for Don’t Play No Game I Can’t Win is beyond rad you may as well check that out while you’re here too.

I recently read a rant on Louis La Roche’s facebook wall talking about how today’s big DJs are not DJs anymore, that they are merely light jockeys with a pre-made playlist, a disappointing presentation of a classically prestigious culture. I sensed that he was becoming disgruntled with DJs shows in general, about how “DJs are the new rock stars” and I don’t think I feel as pessimistic.

Aside from all the reports of DJs playing while their CDJs aren’t plugged in (cough cough, Guetta, cough cough) and individuals that choose to pre mix their entire set, I view the modern DJ show as an entertainment achievement, a spectacle for the senses, when combined with technical DJ skill that is. Imagine, to go to a place with hundreds and thousands of other like-minded individuals, to be rattled by bass, to be bathed in lights and lasers, to let an audio induced high take over and to sweat next to your fellow humans. There’s not too many other things on this world that can excite all of the senses in such a way, and I think it’s great to see the DJ at the helm. The evolved technique of blending music and manipulating sounds, orchestrated with a jubilant spectrum of colours and illumination in a setting that can sustain the participation of many; if you’ve experienced it than I assume a shiver just ran through your skin from the memory. Here’s some big room sounds from some of the people we’ve been following, a blender of electro, progressive, with a little touch of french and disco.

German DJ Stereofunk is about to drop his second album and he’s giving away Senseless for free. Thank him.

We’ve been following Dutch outfit Keljet for a short time so far, enthralled by their nu disco finesse (you must listen to the Channel Cairo remix). Today we’re hearing their sound at the biggest stage at the festival in this high energy electro/nu disco/progressive remix of Don Diablo’s Silent Shadows.

Damn, Fire Flowerz have been bringing nothing but heat! Check out the latest from our boys from Italy.

This 15 year old producer recently won the Untrue remix contest held by Mr. Brett Ewels himself with a solid display of peppy french touch / nu disco. But when we’re talking about high energy music, that remix is definitely reserved compared to some of his other work. Check the latest two singles from Throttle to see what I’m talking about.

German trio Les Loups decided to remix one of the local pop rock bands from their hometown of Hannover, and the result is phenomenal. The style of these two tracks couldn’t be further apart, the original being a song that you would likely find on a top 40 pop rock chart, while the remix is one of the most interesting nu disco tracks I’ve heard this year. Somehow making the vocals infinitely softer, the group gently lays them over dreamy instrumentals drenched in deep funk in this irresistible production.

When Les Loups showed this track to the public, it seemed that they were unsure whether their fans would be keen to this track or not due to the fact that the vocals were in German, and most of their fan base was English speaking. I for one would find it very hard to believe that any single one of their fans wouldn’t instantly be in love with this jam, and it just goes to show that language proves to be a minimal barrier when it comes to enjoying great music. Purchase on iTunes.

From Italy, Msystem will bring the night to peak energy immediately. Electrifying sample based music, Alessandro Salvatori utilizes funk, disco and soul to create some dance floor fever that you’re gonna love. The Acid Disco Freaks extended play features four original tracks and remix support from Geisha Twins and new-commer Televisor.
French producer Tonyboy seems to have a lot of deep house influence, blending that style with funk and french house for a unique dance experience. The kind of vibe that I would enjoy with a rhum and water in hand. Five originals and accompanied by styles from Tagteam Terror, DJ EQ, Stereocool and Kreap, pick this up on Tuesday.

Ladies and gentleman, it’s almost here. The second of the Summer Waves series, a collection summer beats and hot heat that you’re going to be busting all season long. Stardust just uploaded a massive preview of the amazing compilation, listen below then put a dirty big red circle around May the twenty-ninth.

…..

Amazing. Capital Cities are an electronic pop outfit from Los Angeles, and their latest track Kangaroo Court gets a beautiful remix from Shook. Mallets, keys and synths so smooth you wish you could eat’em. Vocals you instantly want to sing. Did I mention there’s a trumpet solo? And the best thing about these about this pair is that the next is just as fantastic. More digital than Shook’s version and bursting with feel good energy, the original will quite forcefully move your feet, and you’ll enjoy every second.

This is my first encounter with Capital Cities, so I hung out on the profile for a while and discovered so many great tunes. Be sure to follow them, I’ll leave you with a couple of my favs.

We’ve been following French producer She Said Disco for quite some time now, and we’re very proud to see that he has released his debut EP, Lady Airplane.

The extended play features three original tracks and two remixes by Jean Tonique and Hemingway. The title track is very energetic, warm and smooth all at the same time, and provides a theme for flight and journey as emphasized by the official video. Jean Tonique put his flavour on Lady Airplane, molding it into a disco ride with choppy cuts, added synth and bass lines, and generous filter action.

Edited By She Said Disco

The second track on the EP, is to be used with wise caution. Perfectly described by its title, Seduction Lesson is a champion example of the Ocean House genre. Sensual, warm, soft, bold. Blended with heat and desire, creating the kind of energy and emotion that I would call rare in modern dance music. And that feeling is dragged on by the very talented Canadian producer Hemingway while he brings the tempo and pitch down and adds some very spacey elements to the mix.

Ocean Love, ahh oui mon chéri. Memories of great times with my darling flash through my mind during playback; a dream as a music video filled with warmth and life pleasure that simply makes me smile. A sought after feeling from a piece of music, and one that this French producer has a tendency to provide.

Released via French label Orinlzoo Music, this is a great debut from She Said Disco. Be sure to follow and support with a purchase, and be on the lookout for more from this French talent.

Our boy Jeremy headed down to Coachella this year for the Weekend 2 celebrations. If you’re like me and didn’t make it to the festival, just read J’s accounts of sweaty dancing, sunshine, holograms and partying, and you’ll feel like you were there. My favourite quote: “No words can describe this visually packed adrenaline rush for your eyeballs.” Awesome.

SCORE CARD

Best DJ: Zedd
Best Producer: Morgan Page
Best Beat: Tie between Housse de Racket and Beats Antique
Biggest Surprise: Other Lives
Best Party: Tie between J Paul Getto and Girl Talk
Best Chill: Bon Iver
Holy Smokes and Lasers!: Swedish House Mafia
Best Overall: Radiohead

JUICY DETAILS

What a rollercoaster. A very hot, wet, adrenaline packed rollercoaster. Coachella’s 2012 Weekend 2 hit 41C (that’s 105F). Music was top priority, but if you didn’t have water and/or shade, you fainted – literally, we witnessed a few. The only saving grace was that three of the stages (Gobi, Mojave, and Sahara) were tented, providing sweet delicious shade for all.

Before we left there was some debate over Weekend 1 vs Weekend 2, but the only difference seemed to be the weather. Weekend 1 was nothing but rain and cold and Weekend 2 was just too hot (but no matter what event, you can’t control the weather). As far as the concert itself, the lineups were identical, so there were no differences there.

If anything, the two weekend approach works well, because the hardcore fans can do both weekends (to catch what they missed weekend 1), and the weekend 2 guys can get a heads up on the best acts. Either way, the artists and the events are amazing, so you really can’t lose.

FRIDAY

Friday lineup

The Coachella ride starts off with a bang. Friday’s very first show at Mojave Stage is Wallpaper with their addicting track that makes you want to gather your bff’s for a road trip to nowhere and drink endlessly… “Fucking Best Song Ever”. Great start for a weekend with the crew.

From there, it’s clear that Sahara tent = Rave tent. With big lights and crystal clear sound, it was very well put together. Starting big with LA Riots, R3hab, and Breakbot, Coachella fans ignoring the blistering heat danced, yelled, and showered water through the morning heat. Of all the places, Sahara is where you grinned, danced and sweated all weekend long. Build after build, these DJs had us in the palm of their sweaty hands at the Sahara tent. Madeon even gave us a pumping live version of his “39 songs I like to play with my Novation Launchpad like it’s the easiest thing in the world.”

The beauty of Coachella is the variety. Tired of raving out? Simply walk next door and get your chill music fill. We were given a pleasant surprise from Other Lives mid Friday. Intricate loops and tones from a completely acoustic-vibe band. Very much in a Radiohead category, but a sound all their own. It seemed at any given time, any one of the 5 members were playing 7 instruments simultaneously (exaggeration, perhaps – we were intoxicated… but these memories are real to me). I specifically remember the lead guitarist playing his strings with a violin bow and playing a trumpet with the other hand. After just finishing a tour with Bon Iver, these guys are doing big things – like currently touring with Radiohead.

Crowds gather in the heat

Once again back to the party scene we were lucky enough to catch the J Paul Getto boys in action at the Heineken Dome. The dome is actually a set of two, and they were sanctuary. The first was serving cold Heineken beverages and was connected to the second party dome. Both were pumping air conditioning and it was such a relief from the hot hot heat. Party dome + J Paul Getto was a catch indeed. Anyone following close to Remix86 knows how well these boys can get your rump moving and feet tapping. I danced solo through their entire 2-hour set and it was as if I was dancing for the first time all over again. And check the insane 360 degree dome graphics:

We then returned to the tents yet again to catch M83. Of course they were out to prove they’re not just a one hit wonder, and they did just that. Each and every song was a gem. I know you still want to see it though, so here’s them playing their smash hit, Midnight City:

We peaked at the end of Friday night with Swedish House Mafia’s epic laser/pyro/fireworks show, filled with mashups of our favorite tracks to club to. No words can describe this visually packed adrenaline rush for your eyeballs. Just watch.

As we were walking back to the campsite, we caught a glimpse of the strangest thing. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a silent dance party (everyone on the dance floor is sporting wireless headphones that are synced to the DJs live set). It messes with your head to witness a crowd of 200 synchronously singing lyrics and jumping up and down simultaneously without hearing any actual music yourself. We joined in on this the next night… so much fun.

SATURDAY

Saturday lineup

The next day was a blur. You know that brief moment in the ride when the rollercoaster carts slow down to pull you up the incline? This was Saturday afternoon. To be honest we didn’t catch any of the performances we should have (Destructo, Dragonette, Martin Solveig, Childish Gambino, AWOLNATION). I blame the shear heat and the pain from recovering from Swedish, but no excuses – this is why people signed up for both weekends – to catch what you missed the first time around. Also we were pacing ourselves through Saturday to make sure we made it to Radiohead… and for good reason. Bon Iver was nothing less than euphoric. The offbeat strings, high range vocals, and emotional lyrics took us to ‘teenage heartbreak’ land and we loved it. The crowd was drooling. The perfect opening for Saturday’s headliner – Thom Yorke and da b’ys.

Me personally, I’ve been a Radiohead freak for years, but I think it’s safe to say this performance added 1000s more to their long list of stalkers. The boys broke out all the classics – There There, Exit Song (For a Movie), Amnesiac, House of Cards. They gave us some new jams from King of Limbs album (Lotus Flower was a big hit), and finished us off with, of course, Paranoid Android. I can die a happy human knowing I saw them live, and at Coachella of all places.

SUNDAY

Sunday lineup

Sunday morning our little rollercoaster went into overdrive again. Loopity loop we went from Morgan Page to Noisia to Housse de Racket to Zedd to Santigold to Beats Antique. Back to back we saw the most inspiring DJing and live performances.

The Housse de Racket drummer was on fire… my arms hurt just watching the guy. Morgan Page soothed us with his signature female vocal samples and smooth background sounds. Beats Antique laid down the hardest drums with the hottest front line lady. They finished off with a world record crowd surf – the crowd carried her all the way to the back of the stage tent (their performance was done and the crowd continued to carrying her). When she finally landed there was a roaring cheer. Such fun.

So back to the campsite, with my best DJ pal Rob (who made a surprise appearance to join us at Coachella, but that’s another story), and we know this is the last push. It’s 7:00PM, and we know we have only 20 minutes to get wasted and get our concert on. Our solution – chug (yes chug) ¼ liter of tequila and proceed to b-line it back to the stage. With operation “drink stupid fast” fully in effect, we proceed to run through the crowd of Justice. The hardest decision of the trip was to bail halfway through Justice to get a good place for Girl Talk, but not without leaving our mark. We danced up a storm as we ran through Justice – I mean front flips over sitting audience, bboy’n circles, and an unlimited supply of high fives the whole way.

L-Stand

Mission accomplished – we are front row for Girl Talk immediately into Florence + The Machine. Girl Talk was nothing short of what his music mashups represent – pure party. Song one, he’s jumping on the DJ booth and his entourage are flooding the stage. It was a house party in a rock concert.

Florence goose-bumped us with her iron lungs and a onezie outfit only she can pull off. At one point she made all the guys in the audience lift the girls on their shoulders for an entire song (Rob and I sacrificed shoulders and backs dearly through this one), but it was well worth hearing Florence at earshot distance.

Last but not least, we managed to fight our way through the mob to see Dr.Dre. At this point – we’re completely gassed from the Sunday evening rush, we are in the back of the back for Dr.Dre, and crowds are the most dense all weekend (no doubt to catch a glimpse of the illusive hologram 2 Pac). So, we decide to bail. Again, if I could turn back the clock I would’ve stayed – Dre brought out his heavy hitters: Snoop Dog, Eminem, Warren G, Kendrick Lamar, and of course, hologram Tupac Amaru Shakur. California Lovin’ was in California Sunday night for sure.

IN OTHER WORDS

Coachella was hands down the most intense jam packed event I’ve ever been to. It’s everything and more that the hype makes it out to be. A bombardment of solid live beats, soothing synths, fist pumping builds, easy chill music, unprecedented visuals, and fan mania all wrapped into 3 days. I highly recommend this gig to anyone with ears and a heartbeat. The only downfall is that my Remix86 besties couldn’t make it this year. I know these guys would’ve been in heaven as well and would for sure give us a heads up on so many other acts. Next year…
